Frankincense Essential Oil – Uses And Benefits
Frankincense, is one of the most popular essential oils used in aromatherapy. It has a whole host of health benefits, including helping relieve stress and anxiety, pain relief, Anti-inflammatory and boosting the immune system. Derived from the resin of the Boswellia sacara tree, the oil is used by either inhaling or absorbed by the skin. To inhale it can be used with an oil defuser or in a scented candle. In aromatherapy massage, it is mixed with a carrier oil such as jojoba. On absorption into the skin, it is said to affect the limbic system in the brain. This in turn, influences the nervous system.

Frankincense has shown to improve skin tone, strengthen cells, improve elasticity and helps decrease blemishes and scars.

When inhaled, it has been shown to reduce anxiety and stress by lowering the heart rate. It brings calm and as a result can help with depression. It has also been known to stabilise high blood pressure.
3. Ease Joint pain
To relieve joint pain and arthritis, gently massage frankincense oil into the affected area. It’s best to use a carrier oil such as jojoba, as that will help absorption. Whilst not instant relief, it should start to take affect after repeated application. It also helps with circulation problems, so the same oil mix can be used on a wider area of the body.
4. Sleep Better
Due to its calming and therapeutic properties, it can help you get a better nights sleep. A few drops on your pillow can strip away the stress of the day, getting you in a relaxed state of mind. Easing you gently to sleep.
5. Cough Relief
When inhaled, it can help eliminate phlegm in the lungs and ease the irritation from coughing. The anti-inflammatory properties make breathing easier. Add a few drops to a handkerchief and inhale deeply, or use in an oil diffuser.
