Ginseng Health Benefits
Ginseng is a root plant that is widely popular in Asian medicine and cooking. It is believed to restore overall health and promote well-being, thus boosting our body’s ability to combat ill health and disease. Chinese medicine especially has a whole host of herbal remedies containing the ground root, that it’s pretty much a staple in the east.
Lets look at some of the health benefits.
Energy Boost
In today’s busy lifestyle, fatigue is often found to be at the root of ill health. Being tired affects our body’s ability to function normally, paving way to problems at both a physical and mental level. It has been found to stimulate physical and mental activity.
Heart health
It has also been shown that it maybe good for promoting heart health. It is a natural anti-hypertensiv, providing protection against heart failure. Asian ginseng, in particular, may protect against the onset of heart disease whilst boosting healthy cholesterol levels.
Mental Ability
It is thought that ginseng may improve brain activity, making it a wise choice for those who need to be alert in their day to day activities. Research conducted by the Medical School of Nantong University in China found that ginseng appears to have some beneficial effects on cognition and behaviour.
Cold and Flu
Research has shown that ginseng appears to stimulate the immune system. In one study, those who took 400 mg daily for four months had fewer colds. Those that did catch a cold, were ill for less time than those who didn’t take it.
Erectile dysfunction
Whilst research is ongoing, it seems ginseng may be beneficial in treating erectile dysfunction. It is believed to improve sperm production, sexual activity, and sexual performance.
ADHD
Whilst it’s early days, it seems that a combination of American ginseng and ginkgo biloba may improve symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and teens. Which if proves true, you’ll be able to say goodbye to potentially dangerous prescription drugs.
