Traditional Japanese Detox Tea
Japanese culture is well known for its balance and simplicity. So it comes as no surprise, that their approach to detoxing is equally zen. One of the most important elements to a successful detox is to eliminate stress on vital organs that come from a build up of toxins. This stress inhibits the body’s ability to function normally, which can lead to illness.
Dokudami Tea Antioxidants
Dokudami is the perfect way to flush out toxins and give the liver an antioxidant boost. This traditional detox Tea is revered throughout Japan and is a secret weapon for a healthy body and great looking skin. The tea is antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal and because of it’s mild laxative and diuretic qualities, toxins are eliminated naturally and quickly. This also prevents the build up of excess water, which leaves you feeling bloated.
Dokudami Tea Natural Remedy
The Dokudami is a Japanese native flowering plant commonly known as Heartleaf. It’s heart-shaped leaves and white flowers have been used for centuries as a traditional herbal remedy. The plant grows everywhere in Japan, from gardens and mountains to public parks. The leaves are hand picked and left to dry uncrushed to preserve the nutrients. The Dokudami is listed as a medicinal herb in the official Pharmacopoeia of Japan and the health benefits have been subject to numerous scientific studies.
How to prepare
It is brewed using the Senjiru Method which is used to ensure all the nutrients are released. Fresh filtered water must be used for optimum flavour, taste and colour, using either an enamel or cast iron kettle. Never use aluminium as that will impair the taste.
Pour 4 cups of cold water into the kettle and add 5 grams of the loose tea. Bring to the boiled and reduce the heat to a simmer for 15 minutes. Take off the heat and leave to infuse for around 10 minutes.
Using a tea strainer, pour the tea into the cups to serve.
